Catching up with myself

Okay, so it's been a while since I last posted a comment on here so I thought I'd just update you on my frantic activities.
The comic expo in March went well and although I only sold 4 of my comics I met lots of other people working to the same goal as me. The comic is doing okay. I have now written a three part mini series which I will be giving away at expos and on line etc so as to build a fan base.
Due to the saturation of the comic book market is now important for me to build a fan base who I can approach directly with new issues etc.
I cut all my hair off at the end of April so as to help get me a job and suspend the stereo types which people seem to project on us hippy types with big beards and long beautiful flowing hair.
I attended the Summer ball at my University wearing a suit my mum made for me which received a great reception as it is styled after Spider-man's Uniform. the best suit I have ever seen.
At the Beginning of May I travelled to Stuttgart Germany for FMX animation festival. I had interviews with Aardman and Disney as well as talking to companies such as Frame Store, Double Negative and Lucas Arts. all in all i was a little disappointed by the festival this year as there was hardly any focus on Traditional 2D animation, which is ok as it is a very corporate event focusing on large industry projects which I haven't really worked with. oh and the man I spoke to from disney implied that I can't draw. Cutting my hair seem to make little difference in terms of getting a job here, next time i think I'll be going to a more 2D focused festival.
Following FMX I had a week or so to complete all my uni work which I managed, receiving the final grade of 2:1 which is nice, graduation is in a few weeks pretty sure I'll wear my suit again.
I also entered a Creative CV competition to win an IPad I received the runner up prize of £30 amazon vouchers which i will be using on something useful (maybe an IPad).
and finally (i think) i attended Glastonbury festival with JFHEROARTS working in the kids field doing craft workshops with children of all ages we had a great time and each child we worked with walked, skipped and ran away with a customised superhero cape with their own insignia.
i think that's all up to date now...?
Let me know if i've missed any gaps, keep an eye out for ORIGINS of the BRASSICA on JFHEROARTS.co.uk

London Small Press Expo

So the expo is coming up on the 12th of March and my comics haven't arrived yet. Should have ordered them earlier but hey what you gonna do? Well . . . order them earlier next time. We live and learn. I have now finished the posters which I will be giving away there. I think it looks better than the comic itself. Think I may have pinned down a better way of working. Sorry that the next one will be so much better really. Maybe one day will see these times as the Golden age of JF Hero Arts, maybe.
I produced this poster mainly in Adobe Illustrator with the small comic strip at the bottom free hand with my wacom tablet in Photoshop. I've used the same block colouring for these smaller images and the built in fill on illustrator for the main image. I like it, it's smooth. It's quite a long process though so I'm not sure how time effective it would be to produce the whole thing in illustrator but I can only have a go.
Is there a programme which will vectorize an image which you can then edit? If Toon Boom can vectorize why can't Illustrator? or can it? Am I just missing something?

thanks for listening

3d: What do you take me for?

So. Today I went to the local cinema to watch The Green Hornet, a movie I have been waiting for, as I am a big fan of Seth Rogen and the original 1966-67 Green hornet series, starring Van Williams and Bruce Lee. I received what I wanted in the story and the acting was fitting of the roles being played. But I was continually distracted by the lack of clarity which 3D cinema allows. What's more there was no alternative to 3D, in fact only two cinemas in the country were showing in 2D.

In a few short months the hype surrounding HD TV has been stompped on by the out of focus foot of 3D stereoscopic cinema. The people responsible for providing us with entertainment, be it serious works of fiction or some half arsed drivel about vampires and goblins, have decided that this way of viewing cinema through uncomfortable spectacles is somehow going to improve our cinema experience. I have heard excuses such as preventing pirating of said films but how can this be something for the viewer? The whole drive behind 3D viewing seems to only benefit cinema companies and film distributors. Don't get me wrong these guys work hard to provide us with entertainment, whether their judgement of material is good or not. Surely their main priority should be the customers who frequent the cinema.

The prices are so high why not just download it off the internet for free? You even get people walking around in the front row for the genuine cinema experience. It is as if the people in charge are searching for ways to get our money. Is it not clear that more people go to the cinema on a WEDNESDAY than any other day? If the tickets to the cinema where half the price twice the amount of people would go? What happened to packed cinemas isn't the result of the internet or DVD sales, although they are a contributing factor. Surely £7+ isn't a reasonable price per person, and more for popcorn a known cinema must.

Isn't value for money how Tescos has taken over the country, if everyone knows they're getting a deal then every one will buy into it. I could go to the cinema every night, wouldn't that be great?

It frustrates me that my options are being narrowed to the point where I will no longer bother going to the cinema. How will that effect your bonus Mr Movie man? (thats not his name i just don't know it)

I can't be the only one who sees 3D as a waste of time and cinema? A waste of actors, script writers, directors? In my own opinion 3D is suitable for computer animation and horror movies and even then it has to have a reason. Why should i have to remember accessories when i go to watch a film?

Unfortunately i don't know anyone powerful enough to take the helm of the money machine that is the movie industry. But if YOU do please tell them to get off their arse and sort it out. i don't want to see the cinema industry die i want to go for the rest of my life.

This is my first blog so I don't know how to sign off.
